Santa Claus made a special trip to the Montevideo-Chippewa County Public Library during the weekly pre-school story hour Tuesday. The children sang Christmas songs and listened to stories about the Christmas season before the jolly old elf handed out candy canes to everyone. Pioneer Public Television, Appleton, and the University of Minnesota, Morris, are collaborating to present the carol concert, “Everywhere, Everywhere, Christmas Tonight!” on Pioneer Public Television during the holiday season.

Parents, children and members of the general public turned out in full force Monday night for the annual Montevideo Lighted Holiday Parade (see page 1B for more photos). After the arrival of Santa Claus by train at the historic railroad depot at the south end of First Street (right), people proceeded north up First Street to watch the parade and go to Santa’s workshop at the Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce office. There Santa greeted children, including (above) Haley and Nicole Marshall, of Montevideo. The children received bags of treats from Santa’s helpers before heading home for a good night’s sleep. The Christmas holiday season will kick off in Montevideo in grand style beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, with the return of the Santa Train after an absence of several years.
Veterans, members of the public and active duty members of the nation’s armed forces will gather Friday throughout the nation at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to observe Veterans Day.
