Sandra Hodge was officially sworn in as a council member at Monday evening’s city council meeting. Hodge replaces Karen Nieuwbeerta who resigned to move to Alexandria. Hodge will serve until the general election in 2018.

Jeffrey “Hawk” Andreas was introduced as the new manager of the municipal liquor store. Andreas was promoted from the position of assistant manager when former long-time liquor store manager Tom Ryman retired on May 31.

 

In business on the consent agenda, the council considered the approval of verified claims in the amount of $344,033.79, as well as authorizing the sale of seized/surplus items by the police department.

 

The department is looking to sell a 2001 Dodge Caravan, a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, a 1997 Ford Ranger, and a 1996 Lincoln Town Car. The council approved both  items on the consent agenda.

 

In general business, the council adopted a resolution that provides for the issuance and sale of $725,000 General Obli­gation Improvement Bonds, Series 2017A.

 

A representative of Ehler’s & Associates was on hand to present the bids for the bonds. He reported that, after a credit review by Standard & Poors was held on June 6, 2017, the city’s bond rating has remained the same at AA-Stable.

 

After discussion, the council adopted the resolution to issue and sell the bonds.
