The 30th annual MPTA statewide Bus Roadeo was on Saturday, July 15 in Fergus Falls.

Thirty-eight public transit bus drivers from across the state competed for honors, three of which

Larry Yackley of Canby placed 12th, Dan Braske of Madison placed 6th, and Monica Engen of Montevideo placed 10th in the competition.

Prairie Five Rides typically sends 2-3 drivers each year to compete in the event.

The Roadeo itself is a driving skill test, and drivers are evaluated on criteria such as wheelchair securements and passenger relations.

Regarding the vehicle, drivers were to perform a pre-trip inspection, find faults, and report them. In addition, they then had about 10 cone stations set up, and had to maneuver the bus without hitting the cones. The station consisted of both backing up and pulling out into locations that resembled daily activities for the bus drivers to carry out, while providing rides to passengers throughout the day.
