State senator Andrew Lang and state representative Tim Miller visited Montevideo on Saturday for a town meeting. The event was held at the historic Carnegie Library and was an opportunity for the legislators to discuss the recently completed legislative session.

A number of topics were touched on during the course of the meeting, and questions were taken from the audience.

Health care was the first item discussed, as the debate over health care at the national  level continues to be a hot topic. Both Lang and Miller agreed that something needs to be done.

“As a nation, we’ve come to the point where we expect that health care is a right. That being true, it doesn’t mean we can achieve it. So we have to  make the decision that if everyone is going to have health care, how will we go about it and what path makes the best sense,” said Miller.

Lang said, “One thing that has really happened in the  last year or so is that the people who are putting more dollars into their health care are getting less and less out of it than the people who put in less and are getting more and more. We need to address those realities.”
