A large number of  family, friends, well-wishers and former students gathered at Luther Haven recently to honor a very special lady. They were there to help Edna Anderson celebrate her 100th birthday.

Anderson was born on September 13, 1917. Her parents owned a farmplace between Montevideo and Boyd, and Edna was part of a large family which consisted of seven sisters and five brothers.

Anderson’s memory is undimmed by time, and she remembers how it was growing up during the Great Depression. “Things were tough. Some of my sisters went to school in Monte, but I remember one year where I had to stay home and work. The next year I asked my dad if I could go to school in Boyd, and that’s what I did,” she said.
