At Monday evening’s city council meeting, the council considered accepting a Small cities Development Program Grant Contract with the State of Minnesota in the amount of $716,000. The city has been applying for these grants for almost 20 years, and receives them almost every three years.

The council approved the contract, and the money will be available to fund owner occupied and commercial rehabilitation projects. The city had also applied for a rental rehabilitation grant, but that was denied by the state.

Prairie Five CAC is the administrative agency that will be responsible for disbursement of the funds.

The council considered only two items on the consent agenda, the approval of verified claims for the period ending Nov. 3, 2017 in the amount of $533,699.01 and the authorization of selling seized/surplus items by the police department and liquor store. Both items were approved.

Under general business, the council considered a resolution authorizing the city to abate a nuisance at 119 South 9th St. The rental property is owned by Jeff and Tami Higgins.
