Christmas always seems to bring out the best in people, and for  one local family, this Christmas will surely be one to remember.

Jacob and Jen Hurst moved to Montevideo in July with family in tow. They have three boys ages 1.5, 5, and 6 years old. In addition, Jen is pregnant with twins which are due on Jan. 5!

Jen’s parents live in Montevideo, and the couple wanted to be closer to them. Jen has been unable to work due to her pregnancy, and her parents have been a big help.

Jacob is a veteran who served eight years in the air force in California before he was discharged. He then went to school to become a mechanic, and he now works for Schwieter’s Ford in Montevideo.

Money has been tight for the young family due to the move and Jen not being able to work. As a result, the couple were unsure if they would be able to buy Christmas presents this year while keeping up with bills.

Jen decided to call the American Legion to see if they could possibly help. She explained her family’s situation to Legion Manager Emily Olson, who then contacted Trustee President Tom Anderson. This led to Anderson and Ron Dirckx, Trustees Secretary, meeting with the Hursts.

After meeting with the family, Anderson and Dirckx decided that this was something the Legion “family” should become a part of. The boys were only asking for a few modest gifts such as a Hot Wheels race track and sleds.
