At last Tuesday’s Chippewa County board meeting, commissioner Jeff Lopez was unanimously elected to be chairman of the board of commissioners for 2018.
At last Tuesday’s Chippewa County board meeting, commissioner Jeff Lopez was unanimously elected to be chairman of the board of commissioners for 2018. Commissioner David Lieser was chosen to be vice-chair. Each year at the first meeting of the new year, the board is re-organized.
In other business, Chippewa County Attorney David Gilbertson presented his report on the activities of his office and the court cases filed in Dec. of 2017.
Several items on the consent agenda were considered and approved by the board. The date for the next board meeting was set for Jan. 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Room at the Court House. The minutes from the Dec. 19 regular meeting and the Dec.28 special meeting were approved. Also approved was the renewal of a farm winery license for Hinterland Winery in Clara City. Interim county auditor/treasurer Michelle May was added to the county credit card user list.
Chippewa County Sheriff Stacy Tufto met with the board to discuss the activities of his department during the month of Dec., 2018. He reported to the commissioners that the Drivers Diversion Program had been suspended based on court rulings from a similar case in Wabasha County.
County Engineer Steve Kubista met with the board to give a report on the activities of the County Highway Dept. during Dec., 2018.
Kubista requested approval of a resolution setting wages for temporary employees and authorizing other expenditures in the road and bridge dept. for 2018. The resolution was discussed and adopted by the board.
