The Minnesota Department of Corrections has released the results of an assessment of the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton. In 2015, the Department of Corrections proposed an expansion of the Rush City Correctional Facility – an inadequate solution that would only provided 500 beds at a cost of $150 million. The results of this assessment shows that the state could purchase, update, and open Appleton as a state-run prison facility with up to 1,600 beds for $139 million. Senator Lang and Representative Miller will continue to push for more prison space in Minnesota.
