The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners met in regular session last Tuesday, Feb. 6. The board heard a report from Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc. about proposed improvements to the taxiways at the Montevideo-Chippewa County Airport.

Improvements to the taxiways need to be made before construction can begin on new hangars in 2019. The costs for the improvements would be shared by both the city of Montevideo and the county, with an estimated cost to each of $20,000.

The city approved to proceed with construction at the previous evenings city council meeting. After discussing the matter, the board also approved to proceed with construction of the taxiways.

The board received requests for funding from three groups. The Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway Alliance requested $50, the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission requested $18,199, and the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council requested $750. All requests were approved by the board.

The board accepted $50,000 from the BWSR Drainage Records Modernization Grant to update the current record keeping system. The Auditor/Treasurer and board chairman were authorized to execute the agreement.
