Last Thursday Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m., the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car that had broken through the ice on Lac qui Parle.

Last Thursday Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m., the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car that had broken through the ice on Lac qui Parle. The car had broken through on the south end of the lake just north of County Road 13 near the east shore.

Dispatchers informed deputies that the vehicle was partially submerged and that two occupants were still inside the vehicle. Upon arrival at the scene, responding personnel donned cold water rescue suits and were able to make it to the vehicle.

Both occupants of the vehicle were assisted out of the vehicle and helped to safe ice. On scene medical staff provided medical attention to the occupants and they were eventually warmed up and released.

Agencies assisting at the scene were Milan EMS, Milan Fire Department, Lac qui Parle Sheriff’s Office, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Minnesota DNR.
