Two Montevideo High School seniors were recently presented with the Minnesota State High School League AAA Award. The two students who received the award this year were Hannah Cushing and Josh Tastad.

AAA stands for Arts, Academics, and Athletics, and students who are nominated for the award are active in all three areas. Each school nominates one boy and one girl for the award.

“At Montevideo, we have a chart that adds up what students are active in and tells us what students will be most competitive at the sub-region and region level,” said Principal Bruce Bergeson. “Any student is eligible, but only those active in activities are considered.”

Minnesota has eight regions for Class A and Class AA, and each region has four sub-regions. Each sub-region names a male and female winner, who are then considered for the region nomination. Each region sends a boy and a girl representative to the State competition, where the winners are announced during the boys state basketball tournament.
