The 2018 Schwan’s Culinary Skills Challenge took place on Thursday, April 5, and featured high school students showcasing their artistic and scientific creations through hands-on competitions and seminars.

The 2018 Schwan’s Culinary Skills Challenge took place on Thursday, April 5, and featured high school students showcasing their artistic and scientific creations through hands-on competitions and seminars. The event is held annually at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Marshall, MN.

Approximately 200 students participated from eight different schools in Southwest Minnesota, with 15 students participating from Montevideo. Dee Lund, Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, reported that her delegation very much enjoyed the day long event.

The students participated in a number of the many workshops available, such as BBQ Pitmaster, Omelets, Fresh Spring Rolls, Basic Cake Decorating, Vege­table/Fruit Carving, Honey Bees, and Healthy Snacking 101. They also participated in events such as Food Art, Cake and Cupcake Decorating, Knife Skills, Menu Design, Table Setting and Baking Science.
