Local churches from around the area have organized a 2018 Better Together food packing event to help end hunger in Montevideo and the surrounding community.

On July 10, volunteers from the area will come together at the TACC and pack 120,000 meals that will stay within the area. The food chosen to pack will be mac and cheese, beans and rice, and apple cinnamon oatmeal. These meals will go toward the local food shelves, area school backpack programs, disabled veterans, and others in need. The organization is hoping to raise $5,000 in donations to meet their goal of 120,000 meals.

“The way that you can help is to make a donation,” said Pastor Don McKee. “To date we have gathered $1,200. Through a generous donation by Our Savior’s Lutheran Mission Endowment, the first $5,000 will be matched with a gift of $5,000. Put this with $10,000 coming from the Southwestern Minnesota Synod and we will have all we need. We will be better together,” said McKee.

The organization is hoping to raise $3,800 by the first of May. KleinBank has offered to be a collection site for donations, which can be found on main street and Highway 7. Donations can also be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, located at 222 N. 5th St. in Montevideo. Any amount and any donation will help and is greatly appreciated. The event on July 10 will also need around 600 volunteers to meet their goal.
