The Montevideo Veterans Home Committee urges all veterans and community members to participate in a letter writing campaign to Governor Mark Dayton.

A plan has been proposed by the Minnesota Finance Committee to use excess funds from the Vikings Stadium in the construction of three veterans homes, including the one proposed for Montevideo.

The Minnesota Finance Committee fully supports the proposal, however, Gov. Dayton is still hesitant about using the excess stadium funds.

Marvin Garbe, Montevideo American Legion Post Commander and head of the Veterans Home Committee, said, “This is urgent! We need everyone to write Gov. Dayton and ask him to support taking excess funds from the Vikings stadium Account and use for the construction of the three proposed veterans homes.

This year’s legislative session is winding down and it is important that funding for the veterans home is in place. Even if the funding is approved, it would still be three to four years before construction could begin as the projects would have to be approved by the federal government.

Those who wish to write to the governor may do so by sending letters to:

Governor Mark Dayton, office of Governor Mark Dayton
