On Tuesday, Chippewa Enterprises in Montevideo received a Life Enrichment Award from the Minnesota Organization for Habilitation and Rehabilitation (MOHR). The award was for Chippewa Enterprises work with its Worksite Wellness Garden and its connection with the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

Last year, Chippewa Enterprises, Inc., partnered with SHIP and Brian Albers’ classes at the Montevideo High School to build a number of raised garden beds.

Gwen Bowler, Executive Director of Chippewa Enterprises, said: “We have created a beautification to our town and facility, encouraged healthy lifestyles to better the lives of our consumers and staff, and provided an opportunity for change and created access to healthy foods.”

Chippewa Enterprises is increasing healthy eating for its clients. With that in mind, the raised planting beds were built, and students, clients, and staff all  learned about the best plants to grow together, germination, weather, construction methods, and basic garden needs.
