Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital-New CMS guidelines went into effect on November 15th, 2017 which, among other things, requires CCMH & other healthcare facilities to conduct exercises with community partners to test our disaster plans.

Last week we conducted an influx of patients exercise where a large volume of patients presented to our facility in a short period of time which presented additional challenges to our resources and staffing levels.

The exercise was a collaboration between EMS, Luther Haven, CCMH and Home Care. It also featured volunteer high school students to play the roles of the victims.  The mock scenario was a high school choir concert for the residents of Luther Haven that was interrupted when a tornado touched down and damaged Luther Haven and injured 15 people, including students and family members, along with residents of the nursing home.

EMS was called to the scene and triaged patients to the emergency, hospital, clinic, and surgery departments.  The Hospital Incident Command Center was opened up and the disaster recovery was initiated. Special thank you to the Montevideo High School students for volunteering and helping make this exercise possible.
