The Montevideo area Special Olympics basketball teams participated in the State Summer Games held at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul this past weekend.

The Montevideo area Special Olympics basketball teams participated in the State Summer Games held at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul this past weekend.

Monte’s athletes did very well at the competition. The half-court Purple team won first place in their division, as did the half court White team. The full court team placed second in their division.

A number of individuals participated in the skills competition, which tests the athletes ability to perform various basketball skills such as timed dribble across half the court and back, square shots, and basket shots.

Marcus Jerve placed third in skills, Hayley Swanson placed fourth, Doug  Pierce placed third, Amanda Bauer placed third, Nathan Van Gorp placed second, and Steve Brokke placed second.
