Coborn’s Inc., has announced plans to close its location in Montevideo. The business will close on July 30, with the exception of the pharmacy, which closed on July 10. Coborn’s Pharmacy has transferred its files to Thrifty White so Coborn’s guests can continue to get their pharmaceutical needs met with limited interruption.
Coborn’s continues to evaluate its portfolio of stores, strategic plans and its business operations. Upon reviewing the Montevideo location, Coborn’s came to the difficult, but necessary decision to close the store. The Montevideo location is simply unable to generate the guest count necessary to sustain operations as-is.
“As an employee-owned company, Coborn’s strives to ensure the success of all our stores,” said Coborn’s Chairman, President and CEO Chris Coborn. “This decision to close the Coborn’s store in Montevideo was difficult and not made lightly. I am thankful to the team in Montevideo for their hard work since this store opened in 2011.”
Coborn’s employs approximately 59 employees at Coborn’s in Montevideo, which includes 12 full-time employees and 47 part-time employees. All employees are being offered personal one-on-one placement assistance for other roles within the company. For those circumstances where continued employment is not an option, Coborn’s will offer these employees assistance to help with the transition.
Coborn’s remains committed to growth, with the upcoming completion of a newly constructed “new concept” Cash Wise store in South Fargo and the upcoming completion of a “new concept” remodel at Coborn’s on Cooper Ave. in St. Cloud. Both projects are expected to be complete later this month.
