The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Courthouse in Montevideo.

The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Courthouse in Montevideo. Commissioners present were David Nordaune, David Lieser, Matt Gilbertson, Jim Dahlvang and Chairman Jeffrey Lopez.

The commissioners each gave a report regarding the various meetings that occurred during Sept. of 2018, followed by a report from Michelle May on the activities of the Auditor/Treasurer’s Department during the same month.

The board closed the meeting at 10:02 a.m. to discuss a personnel performance issue, and the meeting was reopened at 10:42 a.m.

Sheriff Stacy Tufto met before the board to report on the activities of the sheriff’s office during September of 2018. The board discussed the retirement of Tufto and the replacement of personnel within the Sheriff’s Dept. A motion was made to hire a full-time deputy, effectively starting on Nov. 15, 2018. The motion was approved.

County Engineer Steve Kubista came before the board and provided a report of the Highway Department’s activities during the month of September. Kubista presented a resolution to transfer $80,000 of state aid funds from the Municipal Construction account to the regular construction account.

A motion was made to approve the resolution, and was passed. The Commissioner of Transportation is to transfer $80,000, leaving two years apportionment from the municipal account into the regular construction account.

Kubista next presented an out-of-state travel request to attend the NACE Conference in Wichita, Kansas. The request was approved.
