MAAP (MN Association of Alternative Programs) STARS (Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Self-esteem) held their 25th Annual MAAP STARS Fall Leadership Conference at Lake Beauty Camp by Little Falls, MN on October 10-11.

This year's conference was comprised of nearly 200 students and staff from 27 different alternative programs from around the state of MN.  Five students were selected from MN Valley ALC in Montevideo to attend the conference.

During this event each school can send one student as a MAAP STARS officer candidate.  This year, MN Valley chose Victoria Rivera to represent their school.

These candidates (there were eight total) gave speeches in front of all the students and staff in attendance on the first night.  Schools then vote for the five students that would best represent alternative education around the state of Minnesota by attending various events.

That night the students also had an opportunity to work with some other schools in team building activities, play blacklight dodgeball and hear more about the STARS organization.

The following day was filled with breakout sessions focused on planning activities for our STARS group and hearing two great motivational speakers: Carl Olson and Derrick Greenfield.

The conference concluded with the voting results, where MN Valley's own Victoria Rivera was named MAAP STARS State Officer for the 2018-2019 school year.
