Sixth graders from Melita Hildahl’s English class had the opportunity to participate in last Friday’s Veteran’s Day Program at the Montevideo Middle School. The students were asked to write essays on the topic “Why I honor the American flag.”

Participating students included Genesis Andino Cruz, Lin Issa, Sam Knoop, Nery Guerra, Kadence Sharp, and Camryn Mortenson.

A passage from Genesis Andino Cruz’s essay included “The American flag unites us as a family. It links us together to make a team and stand together as we fight. That’s how we develop pride in our country because we help each other out and we believe in our patriots.”

Lin Issa wrote “We honor the American flag every day. Have you ever thought about why we do that? We honor the flag to focus on the unity of the American people and the American states.

All people in America have the same rights and services, no matter how they look or where they come from. We honor the flag to honor the justice that we have in America.”
