It would be accurate to state that, in the past, Montevideo High School has proven itself to be a formidable force in the statewide Minnesota Music Listening Contest (MLC).
Dr. Luther Heller, superintendent of Montevideo Public Schools, announced Tuesday that the Minnesota River Valley Education District (MRVED) will not be submitting an application for a Flexible Learning Year calendar to the Minnesota commissioner of education.
The Sub-Section 12 One-Act Play competition will be held at the Fine Arts Center in Montevideo, starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. At its regular monthly meeting on Monday, the Montevideo school board authorized a series of public hearings to get input from school district residents on an earlier-than-usual start to the school year for 2012-2013.
The Montevideo School Board adopted Monday a $2,575,440 local property tax levy that is payable next year. The levy will fund the 2012-2013 school year.

After a day of anticipation for many, votes for the proposed Montevideo school district operating levy were tallied after polls closed at 8 p.m. It was two hours later that Montevideo Superintendent Dr. Luther Heller was able to send the word out: the referendum had been a success, both questions had passed.
During a special meeting on Monday evening, Nov. 7, the Montevideo school board discussed with the district principals the outcome of past goals and where to set goals for the future.
Last week, as it did a year ago, Montevideo Middle School played host to a group of nine doctoral students from Udon Thani Rajubhat University located in Udorn, Thailand.
This upcoming Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., residents of the Montevideo school district will be able to vote on the operating levy proposed by ISD 129. The polls will be located at the Army National Guard Training and Community Center (TACC).
The second annual Kids in the Community Day was held Wednesday last week with 400 middle school students, homeroom teachers and parent volunteers working to complete service projects in Montevideo.
On Sept. 30, the Minnesota Department of Education reluctantly released its yearly report naming schools not making Adequate Yearly Progress. Three Montevideo schools joined 1,050 of the 2,256 Minnesota schools on that list as having at least one problem area.
