Filing for local elections closed Tuesday across Minnesota, setting the stage for the Nov. 2 general election.
For the Montevideo School Board, there are only two candidates who have filed for three positions. They are incumbent Andrew Stenson and first-time filer Steve Kubista.
Incumbents David Lipps and Gerry Wohlhuter chose not to file for re-election.
“It looks like we’re going to have some write-in campaigns,” said Sherry Norby, district secretary, Wednesday morning. “The board has to have six members.”
As of the end of the business day Tuesday, there were three individuals who filed for the Montevideo City Council. Incumbents Marv Garbe, Bryce Curtiss and Karen Nieuwbeerta all decided to run for re-election to another four-year term.
Debra Lee Fader was the only individual to file for the two-year mayor’s position. Mayor Jim Curtiss, who has been mayor since 1997, had decided earlier this year that he would not run for re-election.
The two-week filing period, which began Aug. 3, was for offices that do not hold primaries. The filing period for counties, larger cities, and state and federal offices was in May. If necessary, some of those candidate fields were narrowed in the Aug. 10 primary.
