Graduating class will be 125th at Montevideo Senior High School

The sonorous strains of Sir Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” will fill the senior high school gymnasium Sunday as the graduating Class of 2010 files into the gym for the 125th annual commencement ceremony at Montevideo.

As of this week, 151 seniors, including 30 Montevideo students who received their diplomas last week at the Minnesota River Valley Area Learning Center, are graduating. Among the graduates are 30 distinguished honor students, and 40 honor students.

Valedictorians this year are Katreina Gibson, Abigail Haugen, Troy Hendrickson, Beth Ostlie, and Megan Stevens, all of whom maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Saluta­torian is Elizabeth Albers.

Presidential Council member Dakota Frazier will deliver the welcome following the singing of the national anthem by Bryce Bakkelund. Troy Hendrickson will then read “Your Dimension of Greatness.”

Daniel Grages, a Presidential Council member, will present opening reflections, followed by the symphonic band performing “Arabesque” by Samuel Hazo.

Tiffany Baldwin and Ida-Mari Anderson will present the reading, “Guo Lai Ren” by Xie He Xian, followed by the main address, which will be given by Class of 2010 President Abigail Haugen. Baldwin will present the class memorial.

Bruce Bergeson, high school principal, and Dr. Luther Heller, superintendent of schools, will present the Class of 2010. Montevideo School Board member Betty Christensen will present the diplomas.

Melissa Anderson and Emily Rongstad will present the reading, “And Your Dreams Will Come True” by Debra Ruegg-Jenkins.

Following the concert choir singing “In What­ever Time We Have” by Steven Schwartz, Taylor Brendmoen and Chelsea Maroney will present the reading, “A Creed to Live By” by Nancye Sims.

Closing reflections will be offered by Matthew Toov, after which the 125th graduating class from Montevideo Senior High School will leave one stage of their lives behind and go forth to the next as the symphonic band plays the recessional, “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.”
