Two-vehicle accident southeast of Granite Falls

On Thursday, Dec. 15, at approximately  3:20 p.m.  the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 240th Avenue and 560th Street, southeast of Granite Falls.  Driver’s, Tom Ross  and Mary Behr, both of rural Granite Falls, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Granite Falls hospital.  Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Upper Sioux Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and Granite Falls Fire and Ambulance.

MPD catches juveniles responsible for Smith Park, MRHC vandalism

Last week was a good week for Montevideo police. Two vandalism investigations succeeded in nabbing more than a dozen juveniles allegedly involved in damaging the lighted reindeer display at Smith Park two weeks ago, as well as break-ins at Ramsey Elementary School  and vandalism at the Milwaukee Road Heritage Center earlier this fall.

Last Tuesday night, for the second year in a row, vandals damaged some of the Christmas decoration reindeer on display at Smith Park by the Montevideo Lion’s Club. The Montevideo Police Department is willing to offer a reward for any information that would lead to a resolution of the crime. Chippewa County coyote bounty raises concerns

Last Tuesday, the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to enact a $10 bounty on coyotes from Dec. 1 through April 1 of each year.

Accident claims life of local woman

A one-vehicle rollover Thursday morning last week on Chippewa County Road 4, approximately two miles north of state Highway 40, has claimed the life of a Montevideo woman.

FEMA reminds public about first nationwide test of the emergency alert system

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in cooperation with the Federal Communications Com­mission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The nationwide test will occur on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time.

A community notification meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Montevideo Community Center concerning the release of Sheen Jamale Newton, 21, a convicted Level 3 Predatory Offender.

New communication system for county by end of next year

There is a two-car accident downtown. Meanwhile, the fire department is battling a blaze across town while police are on foot in pursuit of a burglar. While this scenario is not a current news item, it is a situation that could be a reality. Bison don’t stay home on their range
