An accident claimed the life Sunday of Lloyd Koch, 80, of rural Montevideo, when the front end loader he was using to remove snow apparently rolled down a hill. The accident occurred along the 4000 block of 350th Avenue in Yellow Medicine County.

According to a news release issued Monday by the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office contacted Yellow Medicine County authorities Sunday after a phone call in which the caller said they could not locate Koch. The call was received at approximately 1:55 p.m.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office then notified the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office that a front end loader had possibly tipped over at Koch’s address.

Rescue personnel arrived and discovered the front end loader and Koch behind his residence. Koch was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, Chippewa County Ambulance, and the Montevideo Fire Department.
