Storm causes local damage

A suspected tornado caused moderate damage late last Thursday night at the farm of Steve and Diane Ketelsen 5 miles southwest of Montevideo. Several large trees in the Ketelsens’ grove were snapped off or blown over, a garage was knocked off its foundation (above), and a grain dryer was blown off its footings. There was no damage to the Ketelsens’ house. According to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen, a line of strong thunderstorms packing heavy rain and winds gusting to 40 mph raced through the Montevideo area late Thursday night, beginning at approximately 11:34 p.m. Just over an inch of rain had fallen by the time the storms passed on to the east by 2 a.m. Friday.
