This upcoming Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., residents of the Montevideo school district will be able to vote on the operating levy proposed by ISD 129. The polls will be located at the Army National Guard Training and Community Center (TACC).

The proposal includes two questions. Voters can choose to vote for question one, question one and two, or just question two, but question two cannot pass without question one also passing.

Question one will do the following:
• Revoke the current operating levy of $505.35.
• Authorize a new 10-year operating levy of $700 per pupil unit.
• Generate an estimated $310,675 in additional revenue for students beginning in the 2012-2013 school year.

Question two will do the following:
•Authorize an additional 10-year operating levy of $200 per pupil unit.
•Generate an additional $297,675 annually for technology, curriculum and program updates.
The school is asking for the new levy to be passed in order to help sustain normal operations due to shrinking state aid and inflation.
