Every year June Lynne, executive director of the Chippewa County Historical Society, and her staff of capable volunteers come up with a new theme for the society’s annual Christmas in the Village celebration.

The theme for this year’s 33rd annual event, which is coming up Saturday, is “A Gala 1936 Christmas.”

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Historic Chippewa City at the junction of Highways 7 and 59, and will continue the society’s commemoration of its 75th anniversary by celebrating the year 1936.

Author Wayne Ostlie will be on hand with his new book, “Montevideo 1860-1930,” written in collaboration with Paul Ostlie and Odell Bjerkness.

The buildings in the village will be decorated for the holiday season, and the Ness House will be decked out for “A Festive Christmas.”

A variety of events is planned throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. when the Candy Shop and Bake Sale begin.

The ever-popular old-fashioned radio show will begin in the village church at 11 a.m. with an encore presentation at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m. the piano students of Georgia Hanson will present their annual Village Christmas recital.

For the youngsters, Santa Claus will visit from 1 to 4 p.m., there will be horse-drawn rides from noon to 3 p.m., and children’s crafts will be available from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Displays and exhibits will be featured in the Gateway Building and Village Hall.

A meatloaf dinner will be available in the lunch line, and family favorites such as rice pudding, lefse, krumkake, and rosettes will also be served.  Serving will begin at 11 a.m.

The annual program will list the day’s events, and will include interesting facts about the Chippewa County Historical Society’s history.
