Lieser, Hay win in county commissioner primary vote

David Lieser and Todd Hay will vie for the 5th District Chippewa County Commiss­ioner seat in the November general election after being the top two vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary election.

Lieser, Hay and Marv Garbe were running for the seat vacated by Gene Van Binsbergen, who did not file for re-election.

In a light voter turnout in Chippewa County, Lieser re­ceived 332 votes (68 percent), to 84 for Hay and 67 for Garbe.

In the hotly contested DFL race for the governor’s nomination, Mark Dayton edged Margaret Anderson Kelliher and finished well ahead of Matt Entenza.

With 99.59 percent of the state’s precincts reporting as of Wednesday morning, Dayton had 180,908 votes.

Kelliher, the DFL endorsed candidate, received 174,629 votes, and Entenza garnered 79,882.

Republican endorsed gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer received 106,329 votes, with Bob Carney, Jr. coming in a distant second with 9,793.

Tom Horner was the choice among Independence Party voters with 11,335 votes.

In a three-way race for sheriff of Lac qui Parle County, Rick Halvorson and Kevin Monson advanced to the general election.
