The Montevideo boys basketball team scored West Central Conference South wins over Benson and Yellow Medicine East the past week, running their conference record to 8-0 and their conference mark to 13-4.
The Montevideo wrestling team finished 10th in a strong 12-team field at the West Central Conference individual tournament at New London-Spicer Saturday.

For the second time this season, the Montevideo boys swimming and diving team handed an outmanned Morris team a loss, this time by a 104-61 score last Thursday at the University of Minnesota-Morris pool.
The Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan will be stopping in Montevideo on Thursday, Jan. 26, at VFW Post 380. Representing the Twins will be pitcher Anthony Swarzak, infielders Trevor Plouffe and Chris Parmelee, broadcaster Dan Gladden and T.C. Bear.

Playing some of their best basketball of the season, the Montevideo girls defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg and nearly knocked off Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, the first place team in the West Central Conference South.
The Montevideo Gold Dusters placed third out of six teams in a high kick competition at Marshall on Saturday. Montevideo finished behind Marshall and Albert Lea and ahead of Willmar, Belle Plain and New Ulm. “We were really pleased with the performances on Saturday,” said coach Sharon Forde. “Willmar and Belle Plain beat us in Hutchinson, so to beat them now shows us we are progressing.” Montevideo was fourth out of five teams in jazz competition. There was no conference title or section championship on the line, but Friday’s non-conference game between Montevideo and Dawson-Boyd had a tournament atmosphere to it.
