The Montevideo Spartans split two games this past week. On Friday, Monte hosted the Hancock Owls, while on Sunday, the team traveled to Wheaton.

Colton Vien started on the mound for the Spartans on Friday evening. Vien pitched a spectacular game for Monte, giving up only four hits while striking out 13 Owls batters.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Joe Bednar hit a rocket through the gap in right center that made it all the way to to fence. Bednar ended up safely at third with a triple, and he would later score on a base hit.

The rest of the Spartan’s runs came in their half of the fourth inning, when Brad Koosman, Markus Kranz, Joel Schlagel, and Colton Vien all crossed the plate for Monte.

Both  Koosman and Kranz were 2-for-4 from the plate, and Koosman had two doubles. Kranz also had a double, as did Colton Vien.

Vien continued to stymie the Owls’ batters through the ninth inning. Zac Enevoldsen came on in relief and gave up  one earned run, and the Owls scored one run on a Monte error.
