Breaking records in sports is not an every day occurrence, and some records stand for many years before they are broken.

Montevideo senior track athlete Jessica Tastad broke the record for discus at the Section True Team Meet that was held in Minnewaska on Tuesday, May 8.

Tastad’s first throw of the meet tied the record of 118 feet which was set by Mary Dietemeyer in 1999. Tastad’s second throw of 119 feet beat Dietemeyer’s record, and in her final throw of the meet, set the new mark at 125 feet 1 inch.

Tastad’s record breaking toss was good enough to win first place at the True Team meet, and was good enough to secure her place in Thunder Hawk sports history!
