The Montevideo American Legion baseball season came to a close this past weekend at the Sub-State Tournament held in Granite Falls.

On Friday, rain delayed the start of the tournament until the late afternoon when Montevideo took on Madison.

Monte’s bats were all but silent for most of the game as Madison’s starting pitcher allowed no hits through five innings. Meanwhile, Madison’s offense took advantage of a large number of walks to take a 5-0 lead into the late innings when Monte’s offense came to life and strung several hits together, but were unable to put a run across the plate.

Madison added one more run late in the game to seal a 6-0 win. Noah Buseman was 2-for-4 at the plate for Monte, and Max Carruth took the loss on the mound.

Monte’s next game was against Granite Falls on Saturday. Jackson Snell started on the mound and pitched a great game, allowing only one run on one hit and earning a complete game win.

Monte beat Granite by a score of 3-1 on six hits. Chase Korte, Blaine Sederstrom, Seth Kuno, Matt Fragodt, Hunter Ward, and Cade Weber each had a hit for Monte.

In their third game of the tournament on Sunday, Monte had a chance to avenge their Friday loss to Madison but came up short, losing by a score of 4-1. Kerkhoven won the tournament on Sunday.
