It isn’t every day that Montevideo has the opportunity to host a state baseball tournament, but on August 10-12, Montevideo will be doing just that.

 

It isn’t every day that Montevideo has the opportunity to host a state baseball tournament, but on August 10-12, Montevideo will be doing just that. Along with Montevideo’s Junior Legion ball club, seven other teams from across the state will be competing in the Minnesota State Junior Legion Tournament at the varsity baseball field.

A lot of preparation, planning, and work has gone into taking an idea and making it a reality. Montevideo Junior Legion Head Coach Tim Epema, along with Brandon Raymo and a small but dedicated group of volunteers, have gone above and beyond to secure the tournament and spruce up the ball park.

The process to apply for the state tournament began a year ago. Epema said, “We started talking about it last summer, and we decided to go for it. So we put in a bid with the state committee and Jim Bowen and Doug Broich attended one of their meetings.
