The Montevideo Gold Dusters capped a successful season with a fifth-place finish in state Class A high kick competition at Target Center in Minneapolis Saturday.
Aitkin dethroned Cannon Falls for the high kick championship. Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd edged Yellow Medicine East for third place.
The Gold Dusters were sixth after the preliminary round cut the 12-team field in half. Montevideo moved up a notch in the finals, ahead of Lake City.
“The girls danced better than I have ever seen them dance. We were so proud, not only of their dancing but their sportsmanship,” said coach Sharon Forde. “We set our goals in the beginning of the year to go to state and make finals and we accomplished both. This is a class act of amazing girls who had amazing seniors to guide them.”
