An American Olympian with Montevideo connections will be competing in the four-man bobsledding competition Friday and Saturday in the Winter Olympic games at Whistler, near Vancouver, Canada.
Justin Olsen, who is the son of Brad and Kim Olsen of San Antonio, Texas, and the grandson of Ken and Janice Olsen and Gordy and Gloria Bright, all of Montevideo, is a “pusher” on the USA’s No. 1 “Night Train” bobsled driven by Steve Holcomb.
Olsen, who is 6-foot-2 and weights 235 pounds, sits directly behind Holcomb in the sled. Holcomb, Olsen, Steve Mesler and Curt Tomasevicz are the current four-man bobsled world champions.
They are expected to vie for Olympic gold medals with the German No. 1 sled of Andre Lange, who piloted his team to Olympic championships in 2002 and 2006.
The USA has not won an Olympic gold medal in the four-man bobsled since the 1948 games.
