The Montevideo volleyball team opened the season with a non-conference home loss to Dawson-Boyd in a four-set match Tuesday.

After dropping the first set 25-19, the Thunder Hawks came back to take the second set 25-21, with Nichole Strei serving for the final four points.

Kelsi Schuelke served for the final seven points of the third set, which the Blackjacks won 25-14.

A pair of ace serves by Hayley Kubista pulled the Thunder Hawks within 12-8 in the fourth set, but the Blackjacks steadily pulled away, getting match point on a kill by Mari Lee.

Senior Elissa Christensen led the Montevideo attack with four kills, while Kendra Lindblad had 10 kills for Dawson-Boyd.

“We need to communicate better, both offensively and defensively,” said Montevideo coach Joanna Magnuson.

The T-Hawks will play Central Minnesota Christian today (Thursday) at Prinsburg. Montevideo will open the conference season at Minnewaska Tuesday.
