Picking up where they left off last season when they posted an 18-6 record, the Montevideo girls tennis team won six of its first seven matches.
The Thunder Hawks opened the season at Minnewaska Thursday by beating BBE 4-3, Parkers Prairie 7-0 and Minnewaska 5-2.
Alexa Frazier was 3-0 at No. 1 singles, and Catherine Haugen was unbeaten at third singles.
The T-Hawks competed in a quadrangular tournament at St. James Friday, beating Yellow Medicine East and Martin County West by 4-3 scores and losing 6-1 to perennial section champion St. James. Kim Botkin had the team’s lone win against St. James.
Montevideo played host to MACCRAY in an all-doubles match Tuesday, with Montevideo winning four of the five matches.
Haugen has the team’s best individual record to date with six wins in seven matches. Jennessa Runia and Botkin are both 5-2.
The T-Hawks will meet Redwood Valley at 1 p.m. and Luverne at 5 p.m. today (Thursday) at Redwood Falls. Montevideo opens West Central Conference South play Tuesday at Benson with a 4:30 p.m. match against Benson/KMS.
