A near-capacity crowd of about 1,100 fans attended the annual Demo Derby sponsored by the Monte­video Snow-Drifters Fri­day on the final night of the Chippewa County Fair.

The derby drew a field of 23 cars — six in the compact division, seven “chain stock” cars and 10 “welds.”

Winner of the compact division was Justin Smith of Montevideo. Bob Turn­bull of Appleton was second.

The chain stock class was won by Michael Knut­son of Benson, with Andy Macziewski of Mon­te­video taking second.

The weld division champion was Derek Wrobleski of Benson. Cal Hanson of Corona, S.D., was second and Bix Felska of Redwood Falls was third.

Proceeds from the event go to the Snow-Drifters snowmobile club for maintaining and grooming trails and to the Chippewa County Fair Board.
