The Montevideo Gold Dusters will head into today’s (Thursday) West Central Conference competition at Albany with confidence after finishing first in high kick and second in jazz competition at New London-Spicer on Saturday.
The high kick team finished first out of eight teams at New London-Spicer, beating three conference teams, including runner-up New London-Spicer as well as Melrose and Paynesville.
The Gold Dusters continued to polish their jazz routine, finishing second to Albany in the five-team field.
Montevideo’s JV team also had a good day, finishing second.
“The girls performed their best performances for both high kick and jazz for the season,” said coach Sharon Forde. “We were very pleased to bring home three trophies. The girls are working very hard every week and it is really showing.”
Forde said she expects strong competition from traditional rivals Yellow Medicine East and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd.
“We have a very hard conference and will get to compete for the first time against YME and LqPV/DB. It should be a great competition with all three teams having great routines,” said Forde.
St. Cloud Cathedral, which dominated the conference in recent years, is no longer in the West Central Conference.
Forde says she expects YME to be the favorite to win the championship in jazz, although LqPV/DB is also improving in jazz.
