The Spartans, who finished regular season play with a record of 5-15, will open the Land O’Ducks Canvas Division playoffs Saturday against Benson at 3 p.m. in Morris.

The tournament continues Sunday at Benson and concludes the following weekend.

Sacred Heart 11, Monte 4
Sacred Heart ran its record to 19-8 with an 11-4 non-league win over the Spartans Wednesday at Sacred Heart.

Todd Bergeson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Josh Fenske was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Spartans.

Morris used a 20-hit attack to defeat the Spartans 19-2 in seven innings Friday at Morris.

The Spartans scored single runs in the second and fourth innings.

In the second, Joe Schlagel singled, Josh Fenske reached on an error, Josh Anderson beat out an infield single, and Tim Epema singled to score Schlagel.

Anderson reached on an error in the fourth, followed by a single by Epema and a run-scoring single by John Gallagher.

Seven Montevideo errors led to nine unearned runs in the Spartans’ 17-7 loss at Wheaton Saturday.

The Spartans scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead. Josh Fenske walked, John Gallagher reached on an error, and Dave Viek singled in Fenske. Brandon Raymo walked, followed by Todd Bergeson’s RBI single that scored Gallagher. Vik scored on a wild pitch and Raymo crossed the plate on Cam Vien’s single.

Jake Karel’s RBI single gave Montevideo a 5-2 lead in the top of the third before Wheaton scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
