The Montevideo girls tennis team will open the local high school fall sports season when the Thunder Hawks compete in a quadrangular at Minne­waska today (Thurs­day), starting at 9 a.m. against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. The T-Hawks will also face Parkers Prairie and Minnewaska.

The T-Hawks will play in a quadrangular at St. James Friday before opening the home season on Tuesday against Pipestone and MACCRAY.

The team returns six letter winners from last year’s 12-6 team. The returnees are seniors Alexa Frazier and Chelsie McCormick, and juniors Catherine Haugen, Sierra Frazier, Rose Reinert and Lyndsey Moe.

The Montevideo cross country teams boast large numbers, with 50 boys and 22 girls in grades 7-12 on the rosters.

The Thunder Hawks will compete in a five-team meet at Pomme de Terre golf course in Morris Monday at 5:30 p.m.

The Montevideo boys team returns seniors Darin Stevens and Chase Testa and juniors Jared Ben­jamin and Justin Morten­son from last year’s team that competed in the Section 3A meet.

Senior MaKena Hofer, junior Addie Reinert and freshmen Jamilah Carson and Trisha Jakobs ran in the section meet for the girls last season.
