On a bright, beautiful morning, a large crowd gathered at the annual Memorial Day Program  at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

The program began with the Advancement of Colors, which was then followed by the Star- Spangled Banner, as played by the Montevideo High School band.

The invocation was given by Lyle Henning, American Legion Post 59 chaplain. Opening comments were then given by Chris LeBeau, commander of Legion Post 59.

After the band played the Navy Hymn, Rep. Tim Miller gave his address.

Miller spoke of the sacrifices made by those who serve our country. “Those soldiers loved America so much that they were willing to spend months and years away from home ... they fought to achieve our dreams,” he said.

Miller graciously thanked the men and women who served, and continue to serve, our country.

He also thanked the families of service men and women and he also acknowledged the sacrifices that they have made.

Miller concluded his speech by reading Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
