Montevideo’s 71st annual Fiesta Days celebration is already under way.

The Fiesta festivities began on Sunday with a Fly-in Breakfast at the airport and a car show on main street.

This year’s five Fiesta Ambassador candidates and their sponsors (see page 12A) were introduced at Business After Hours at VFW Post 380 on Monday.

The candidates and current ambassadors were interviewed on KDMA Radio on Monday.

The Senior Ambassador coronation, luncheon and dance were held on Wednesday. Minnwest Bank sponsored an ice cream social at the Montevideo Com­munity Center. Also on Wednes­day, the Community Hunger Walk began at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by a multicultural worship service at the Hollywood on Main.

Today (Thursday), things really get hopping. Downtown businesses will be participating in Crazy Days. The Montevideo-Chippewa County Public Lib­rary’s book sale will be continuing, and there will be registration for the library’s Summer Reading Program. The library will also be hosting a comedic juggler at 4:30 p.m. at Smith Park.

Much of Thursday’s events are dedicated to kids. During the Community Picnic, which runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith Park, the always popular Kiddie Parade will start at 6 p.m., followed by the coronation of the new Fiesta Junior Royal Ambassadors. Entertainment will be provided during the picnic by the Montevideo Area Community Band and Dance Haven dancers.

Friday morning is Community Ed/Recreation Kids Day at the softball complex. The Minnesota Twins will conduct a baseball clinic for kids at the varsity field from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Evening events include a taco feed at the VFW, a bean bag tournament at the American Legion and races at Fiesta City Speedway.

Saturday promises lots of outdoor activities, including a golf tournament, 5k run and kayak, canoe and bike races.
