Buon Natale! That’s merry Christmas in Italian, and Historic Chippewa City in Montevideo will be celebrating its 38th annual Christmas in the Village Italian style this year.

Historic Chippewa City, located at the junctions of highways 7 and 59 will be open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for ages 12-17.

In keeping with the Italiano Christmas in the Village theme, a baked ziti (pasta) dinner will be served, as well as pizzelles, which people of Scandinavian heritage will find similar to krumkakke.  Lefse and rosettes will also be served. The dining room will have a red, white and green color scheme, in honor of the colors of the Italian flag.

At 10 a.m., the candy and bake sale will begin. Area artisans will offer unique gift items including hand-crafted jewelry, hand knits, dyed silk scarves, ornaments, hand-spun yarn, wood and glass home decor, fleece items, wood turnings, bullet pens, doilies, wooden ornaments, birch bark weaving, crocheted Christmas decorations, wooden toys, antique tractor replicas, porcelain handmade jewelry, apples, jams, syrup, salsa, dressings, honey, cider, and more. The Gift Shop will feature original work by local artists.
