Longtime Chippewa County Auditor/Treasurer Jon Clauson presented a letter of resignation to the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners at their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Clauson’s resignation will become effective on Feb. 28, 2018. His term had been set to expire on the first Monday of Jan., 2019.

The board discussed a resolution calling for a mail ballot special election to ask the voters of Chippewa County if the office of County Auditor/Treasurer and the office of County Recorder would become board appointed positions, or remain elected positions.

The board feels that, due to the ever increasing complexities and demands of both offices, the board would like to make sure that individuals holding those positions possess the skills and experience necessary to properly carry out their responsibilities.
