On Wednesday, October 3rd from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, the Montevideo Police Department and Montevideo Community Center will hold an event that brings officers and community members of all ages together to enjoy coffee and build relationships. Community members are welcome to join officers in conversation about specific or general questions about the community. This is a great opportunity for citizens of Montevideo to meet officers one-on-one in a relaxed, informal environment.

Coffee with a Cop is a community policing effort that opens dialogue between officers and the community members they serve. There is no agenda, just coffee and conversation. Such an event is a great way for citizens and their officers to create partnerships together by building trusting relationships as well as discover common goals for their communities.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative that is recognized by the United States Department of Justice: Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) division as one of the most successful community policing programs. The program originated in Hawthorne, California and has spread worldwide due to its success and popularity. The Montevideo Police Department and Montevideo Community Center invites community members of all ages in celebrating National Coffee with a Cop Day by building relationships over free coffee, lemonade, and treats.
