The past, present, and future of Brookside Senior Living was celebrated during a special Grand Opening event held on Sunday. Kari Huntley, Director of Housing at Brookside Senior Living, said: “We had nearly 300 people in attendance. It was really a day to say thank you to our donors as well as the entire community for their support through the entire process of rebuilding Brookside.”
The original Brookside Manor was built in 1965, and provided affordable housing to over 1,000 seniors during its lifetime. On October 1 of last year, residents of the old building began the process of moving into the new building. Preparation for the demolition of the old building began soon after the move, and demolition began in November of 2017.
The demolition process took some time due to the fact that the building was built using reinforced concrete designed to withstand anything Mother Nature could throw at it. Eventually, the old building came down and the rubble hauled away.
Throughout the spring and summer of this year, crews worked hard to complete the landscaping of the site. Water retention ponds were constructed, the parking lot was paved, and grass was planted.
The Brookside Senior Living building is a modern senior care facility. “Our new building is truly beautiful inside and out,” said Huntley. “We worked with Miller Architects and Builders out of St. Cloud to build a facility that fits the needs of seniors as well as those living with dementia. We were also fortunate to work with a lot of local contractors on the project.”
